    Individual Therapy

Clients enter a one-on-one therapeutic relationship with a psychotherapist to address their emotional concerns. A therapist may use many therapeutic approaches in which they have been trained or they may adhere to one they identify with in order to assist the individual with viewing themselves through the lens of that therapeutic approach, fostering change through self-discovery.

    Couples' Therapy

Many couples seek the assistance of a therapist to address relationship challenges. A therapist helps the couple to learn to effectively communicate and connect with one another while resolving relational difficulties. It may seem that the relationship is the “client” as you move through the therapeutic process. As therapists, we typically see the couple together but may ask for individual sessions with each or one of the members of the couple, for screening purposes only.

    Family Therapy

With family therapy, the therapist systemically views the family as a whole unit rather than as the sum of its parts. As with couples therapy, the therapist may see individual family members separately in conjunction with the family as a whole. There are numerous modalities from which the therapist may approach issues, but the important thing to remember is that whatever modality your therapist uses, you can address identified difficulties and bring about significant changes in your life.

    Dr. Thelma Rouse

I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy. I am dually licensed in Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Supervisor (LMFT-S). I am also an AAMFT Approved Supervisor, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Virginia, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in Washington, D.C., and a National Certified Counselor (NCC).

My approach to therapy is rooted in a systemic perspective, which means I view you within the context of your relationships, family experiences, and life environments. Often, the struggles we face are connected to patterns that have developed over time within families and important relationships. Together, we can explore those patterns with compassion and curiosity rather than blame or judgment.

I believe therapy should feel collaborative, supportive, and empowering. My goal is to help individuals, couples, and families gain deeper understanding, strengthen connections, and create lasting change. By identifying and shifting unhelpful relational and generational patterns, you can begin to experience healthier relationships, greater resilience, and a stronger sense of balance and well-being.

I consider it a privilege to walk alongside you as you work toward healing, growth, and making meaningful changes in your life.
